"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate"
- Oprah Winfrey
Surprise! This Shimmer trend, yet again, revolves around self expression. For those of you who have not yet read the "Music To My Ears" article, this is a key theme within Fall/Winter 08/09 trends. The reason is that we live in a society where technology has allowed us to present ourselves to the world through reality television, video games, social networking sites, blogs, etc. People are not afraid of showing who they are to the public anymore. This can get quite scary (example, Rock of Love: Charm School 2) but none the less, I think it's a positive sign of the times.
The highlight of Shimmer is that it embodies self reflection and self celebration. The look? Anything that captures light. Color that shines and reflects. Fabrics and embellishments such as silk, satins, vinyl, glitter, sequins, crystals, gems, metallic, brocade...the list goes on and on.
Keep checking back for updates and specials about this trend.

HIGH FASHION
Naturally sparkle and glitz are abundant in evening wear, however this season Shimmer breaks through the night and bursts into day wear.
Bring a bit of glam into your social life. This look is perfect for lunch with the girls or a stroll through the office. Dior adorns silk with vivacious gems.

This tailored outfit would be perfect for the office to dinner transition. Oscar De La Renta, RTW includes hits of metallic shimmer.

HOME FASHION
I gathered just a few images for you to see how this trend has trickled into home fashion. You can see that most interpretations of the Shimmer trend were focused on a rich color palette of gold, bronze, and browns. However, silver is also prominent but this season it has an unexpected surface texture.
Mulberry Home printed metallic fabric pillow and chair. I love the contrast between the sleek silver and the rough texture of the brown fabric.

Z Gallerie Rictor pillow in beautiful rusts colors. Blissliving Home Audrey bedding adorned with bronze leaves and a sequined Sasha gold pillow.

Blissliving Home Glitter candles. I love these!

Z Gallerie photo frames with beaded texture catch light brilliantly.

CB2 mercury vases. This vase is actually ceramic dipped with a silver. Hence the unexpected surface texture mentioned earlier.
